Why
TraceJournals explores traces of history, intuition, influence, culture, artifacts, paths, vestiges…
Seeking, searching, exploring, discovering... any thing, any place, or anyone who has a story that should be preserved, celebrated, commemorated, embraced, rekindled, or just lifted up to see…So many moments, things, places, people, paths… that are gossamer, ethereal, fading, forgotten… on the crest of being forever lost… are what continues to wrest our interest and creativity into expressing the importance of this ephemeral humanity. The places, paths, people, things are just traces of where we have been, where we are, and where we need to look further. Traces to follow, draw, distill, touch, divine…
I started this project hoping that in giving voice to the sacred and the profane, as well as to the process of seeing and making, that perhaps others would join in, appreciate, pass along, share, contribute to the idea that “When a person, place, thing, idea are left behind, die, or are ignored… a library burns to the ground”
Each journal is a journey, a gallery of visual poems/short stories/shooting stars/scent of an idea, which vanish, but live in memory. The metaphors of each journey are the arcs of each gallery… overarching, underlying… within and without… each image, person, place, path… Some with words. Some without words. Some with images. Some without. Some in motion. Some in music. Some in sounds… Some in silence. Some are process. Some are links to explore… None are judgments. All are questions or ideas held in a light or shadow or over time to understand… memory, presence, foreshadowing… Bearing witness and stepping in. Both.
